Down 14, Memphis Explodes to Rout Missouri on Road

COLUMBIA, Mo. --Ā The Memphis Tigers trailed Missouri by 14 late in the first half but stormed back and earned a 70-55 road win Friday night in Columbia, Missouri.

Memphis struggled to find any rhythm throughout much of the first half, falling behind 29-15 with 6:45 to play in the opening period. From that moment on, the Tigers outscored Missouri 55-26 the rest of the way.

Senior point guard Jahvon Quinerly showed his composure after playing on a big stage his entire collegiate career, leading Memphis with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. He controlled the offense and made crucial buckets when the Tigers needed them.

David Jones pulled down his first double-double as a Tiger with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jaykwon Walton sunk three triples and scored 13 points, while Jordan Brown added 12 points and five boards off the bench.

Missouri led 33-26 at the break, but the Bluff City Tigers wasted no time in catching up. Memphis used a 10-0 run in the span of four-plus minutes to go in front 48-38 with 12:30 to play.

Memphis locked down the home Tigers with its patented defense in the final 20 minutes, limiting Missouri to just 5-of-26 (19.2 %) from the floor. Memphis shot 51.6 percent in the second half and outscored Missouri 44-22.

POSTGAME NOTES
- The win was the fifth against an SEC opponent in the last two seasons, two of which have come on the road.
- Memphis used the starting lineup of Quinerly, Walton, Jones, Nick Jourdain and Malcolm Dandridge for the second-straight game.
- The Tigers shot 43.5 percent for the game (27-62) and connected on 36.8 percent from deep (7-19).
- Quinerly grabbed a career-high eight rebounds and shot 7-10 from the floor.
- Caleb Mills added eight points, four rebounds and a pair of assists off the bench, but was critical on defense in the second half.
- Mills was tasked with locking down Missouri's Sean East II, who had 14 points in the first half. Mills blanketed East and didn't allow East a field goal attempt in the final 20 minutes.
- Memphis' defense held Missouri to 32.1 percent shooting overall and allowed only four Missouri Tigers to make field goals in the second half.
- East led Missouri with 14 points.
- Memphis outscored Missouri 38-20 in the paint, 12-0 on second-chance points and 23-17 off the bench.
