MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team gets back to work this week when it travels to Milwaukee to take on Marquette on Wednesday night before coming back to the Bluff City to host Troy on Saturday afternoon.
Tip-off on Wednesday is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage available on FloHoops while Saturday's match-up with Troy will air on ESPN+ with coverage starting at 2 p.m.
Memphis (2-4) is coming off the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament where the Tigers came away with a win over Howard. In the last game of the tournament, Memphis got a rematch with its season opener opponent MTSU. The Tigers got standout performances from Kai Carter and Madison Griggs – including Griggs breaking the men's and women's school career three-point record - it was Jana Sallman who had a breakout game.
Sallman, a freshman out of Cairo, Egypt, came off the bench for seven points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in her major collegiate debut. However, Blue Raider free throws proved to be too much as MTSU sank 21 from the charity stripe in route to a 64-57 win.
For the season, Griggs and Carter have been the biggest offensive threats for Memphis, combining for 27.5 points-per game while Alasia Smith, Shelbee Brown and Aliyah Green have cleaned up the boards for the Tigers.
Marquette (6-0) is coming off its biggest win of the season with a 74-58 victory over Arkansas where the Golden Eagles shot lights out in the first half, going 19-of-33 from the field.
Four different MU players are averaging double-figures so far this season; Mackenzie Hare, Liza Karlen, Jordan King and Rose Nkumu make up 70-percent of the Golden Eagles scoring while Karlen and Frannie Hottinger are bringing down 7.2 and 8.5 rebounds per game, respectively.
Wednesday's match-up will be the 25th all-time meeting between Memphis and Marquette with the most recent coming nearly two decades ago when the Tigers snuck away with the 61-58 victory.
Troy (0-3) has faced strong competition to open the season. The Trojans played Ball State, Samford and No. 15 Tennessee in its opening week of games.
Ja'Mia Hollings has been Troy's biggest threat on both ends of the floor, averaging 17 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Saturday's game will be the first meeting between Memphis and Troy.
