Memphis Sweeps Temple in Dominating Fashion Friday Night

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team swept Temple on Friday night in front of a packed crowd at the Larry O. Finch Center. The Tigers took control of each set, using big runs and holding momentum to secure the win.
"Tonight was a very strong match for us start to finish. We had contributions from many players throughout the match," head coach Sean Burdette said. "We did very well in the serve and pass game and then our middles were able to get great swings that in turn opened up hitting lanes for our pin hitters."
The Tigers recorded 41 kills, 55 digs, nine blocks and eight service aces in the match.

SET ONE
- Memphis and Temple opened the set matching up point for point. The Tigers took the lead midway through the set going on a 7-1 run. They were aided in their run by aces from Abigail Schlueter and Rylee Busse.
- Memphis kept its foot on the gas, extending its lead late in the set with a block from freshmen Eleftheria Baxa and Autumn Flynn.
- The Owls began to climb back at the close of the set, however the Tigers held strong, taking the set 25-21.
- The Tigers took off with an early lead in the set with a 6-0 run. Flynn put up back-to-back blocks along with two kills during the run.
- Memphis its roll midway through the match with an 8-1 run. Kills from Clara Bednarek and Reilly Briggs assisted the Tigers in building their lead.
- The Tigers dominated the set, taking it 25-13 off an ace from Schlueter. Memphis put up 12 kills, five blocks and recorded three service aces in the set.
- Memphis started the set with another early lead going on an 8-2 run. The Tigers were aided by aces from Catalina Martinez and Busse along with kills from Tabytha Toelke.
- Bednarek put up back-to-back blocks and two kills midway through the set, extending the Tiger lead by seven.
- Despite a late push from the Owls, Memphis pulled off another win in set three, taking it 25-19 to complete the sweep. Big performances from Briggs, Flynn and Baxa assisted the Tigers in their victory.
- Two Tigers finished with double digit kills: Flynn (14) and Briggs (10).
- A pair of Tigers recorded hitting clips over .400 in the match: Flynn (.522) and Bednarek (.429).
- Jordan Heatherly managed a double-double in the match with 22 assists and 10 digs.
- Flynn led the Tigers in blocks with four, followed by Briggs and Bednarek with three each.
- Three Tigers recorded double-digit digs: Busse (13), Toelke (12), and Heatherly (10).
