MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team defeated Temple after five hard fought sets on Senior Day. The Tigers (10-20, 6-12 AAC) dropped the first set, before coming back to take sets two and three. The Owls would push a fifth set before dropping the match to the Tigers.

"Wow! A great weekend to end our last home matches of the season with fantastic crowds on hand. We were able to put together very good game plans for both matches and our players executed them well," head coach Sean Burdette shared. "It was great to have the seniors end their career home stands with wins. They've all been impactful on the program."

The Tigers recorded 63 kills, 84 digs, 11 service aces and nine blocks in the match.

Memphis 3, Temple 2

SET ONE

Memphis and Temple opened the set matching up point for point. The Tigers took the lead into the media timeout with a kill from Reilly Briggs.
The Owls began climbing back in it, taking the lead after going on a 7-1 run in the second half of the set, forcing a Tiger timeout. Temple would hold onto the lead, taking the set 25-21.

SET TWO

The Tigers took off with an early lead in the set with a 7-1 run. Tabytha Toelke and Clara Bednarek assisted the Tigers in their run.
Memphis held its lead midway through the set, with kills from Autumn Flynn, Briggs and Bednarek helping them along.
Temple tied it up late in the set, going on a 6-1 run, however the Tigers were able to pull away in the final points, capitalizing on blocks from Tabytha Toelke, Briggs, Flynn and Bednarek along with errors from Temple.

SET THREE

Memphis started the set with another early lead going on an 7-2 run. The Tigers were aided by kills from Madison Rice-Locket and Bednarek.
The Tigers continued to add to their lead going on a 6-1 run midway through the set, forcing an Owl timeout.
Memphis took the set 25-16, after putting together a 6-2 run, closing out the set on a service error from Temple.

SET FOUR

Temple took an early lead to open the set, building momentum and forcing a Memphis timeout.
The Owls continued to widen the gap, adding an 8-3 run, with kills from Chelci Banks, Taylor Davenport and Avery Luoma.
The Tigers went on a 6-2 run late in the second half of the set, gaining momentum as Briggs put together multiple kills and a block.
Temple holds off the Memphis to close the set, taking it 25-20.

SET FIVE

Memphis took a slight lead to open the set, capitalizing on service aces from Abigail Schlueter and Rylee Busse.
The Tigers and Owls traded points back and forth in the second half of the set, neither side able to build a substantial lead.
Memphis would go on to take the set 16-14, closing out the match on a kill from Eleftheria Baxa.

NOTABLES

Three Tigers finished with double digit kills: Bednarek (15), Flynn (12) and Briggs (11).
A pair of Tigers recorded hitting clips over .300 in the match: Bednarek (.387) and Briggs (300).
Jordan Heatherly managed a double-double in the match with 22 assists and 10 digs.
Briggs and Bednarek led the Tigers in blocks with five, followed by Flynn with four.
Three Tigers recorded double-digit digs: Toelke (23), Schlueter (21) and Heatherly (10).
