Tigers Hold On for 3-1 Win Over Blazers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Memphis Tiger men's soccer team continued its winning streak Saturday night following a 3-1 win over UAB.
"This is a well-deserved win for the guys," head coach Richard Mulrooney said. "They did a great job creating opportunities and finishing on those chances. The team put together a good 90-minute performance and I am extremely pleased with the result."
With the victory, Memphis moves to 7-3-2 for the season and 2-3 in AAC play.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Tigers would take the lead in the 24' when Elie Bokota found the feet of Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos deep in the box who connected for his ninth goal of the season.
- Alberto Cruz added to the Memphis lead in the 42' after he nailed a penalty kick.
- The Tiger defense was nearly perfect in the opening 45 minutes, holding UAB to just two shots with neither of them being on-goal.
- JD Gunn was everywhere in the box, making back-to-back saves in the 62' to keep UAB off the board.
- Memphis would extend its lead in the 63' after the Blazers let in an own goal to make it a 3-0 Tiger advantage.
- UAB would find the back of the net in the 66' off the foot of Gustavo Barbosa to cut into the Memphis lead.
- While the Blazers tried to string together a comeback late in the second half, Gunn and the Tiger defense held on for the 3-1 win.
- Gunn made four saves in route to his fourth win this season.
- Memphis won the battle in shots (19-13) and corner kicks (8-4).
- Rodrigues dos Santos recorded his second goal in as many games while Bokota picked up his third assist in the last two matches.

- Memphis will come back to the Bluff City next week to host Temple on Saturday, Oct. 21. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage available on ESPN+.
