MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis head men's golf coach Blake Smart announced the signing of Jack Tanner on Wednesday. Tanner joins Andrew Baucum, Adam Coull, Jackson McCommon and Cian O'Connor as the program's five signees for the 2022-23 class.
"I am very pleased to welcome Jack to our program for his final two seasons," Smart remarked. "He is bringing with him a lot of college experience and rounds under his belt. I certainly see Jack contributing in a large way and immediately."
Tanner comes to Memphis after playing three seasons at South Dakota State University. A product of Glenelg, South Australia, Tanner played a total of 68 rounds for the Jackrabbits over three years, posting a scoring average of 73.91. He recorded two top-five finishes and three top-10's in his three seasons in Brookings.
Tanner was a standout for South Dakota State, leading the team with a 74.15 scoring average his freshman season and posted a team-best average of 73.67 his sophomore campaign.
Prior to SDSU, Tanner was a Men's State Member of the South Australian Team and won Glenelg Golf Club Junior Pennant Player of the Year honors in 2018. Also, that year, Tanner took home 16th place at the Japan Interregional Team Championships as a member of the Golf SA Men's Pennant Team.
After winning a gold medal as a member of the South Australia team in the Pacific School Games in 2018, Tanner won the Glenelg Junior Club Championship to cap his great year. In 2015, Tanner took home medalist honors at the Glenelg Men's Club Championship as a 14-year-old, becoming the youngest player in the event's 88-year history to win.
