Tigers Take Fifth at Hal Williams Collegiate to Start Spring Season

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Memphis men's golf team opened the spring season with a fifth-place finish at the Hal Williams Collegiate at Magnolia Grove, posting a three-round total of -10, 830.

The Tigers climbed three spots on the final day with a 4-under-par 276, closing the event strong in a competitive field. Memphis finished 16 strokes ahead of No. 53 Rice and 10 shots clear of No. 57 South Alabama.

Individually, Memphis placed three golfers inside the top 15. Yixiang Wang led the Tigers, tying for 12th at 4-under after rounds of 68-69-69. Tobey Kim and Diego Do Patrocinio Lourenco each tied for 14th at 3-under. Kim posted rounds of 69-68-70, while Lourenco carded scores of 68-71-68.

Lourenco climbed 11 spots on Tuesday with a team best 2-under, 68 to earn his highest finish of the season, while Cian O'Connor moved up 10 spots to 28^th with a 1-under, 69. It is his third-straight top-30 finish for the Tigers.

No. 13 Illinois captured the team title at 31-under, followed by Southern Miss (-16), UAB (-14) and Eastern Michigan (-13). Memphis tied Nebraska for fifth at 10-under.

Notables

Wang led the field with 44 pars over two days and finished the tournament with just three bogeys (all in round three).
Kim tied for second in par-5 scoring at 4.33 (-5) and also carded the seventh most pars in the event with 41.
Lourenco's recorded 14 birdies across three rounds, which was the fifth most in the field. The leader carded 18.
As a team, Memphis led the field in total pars with 187 over the three rounds.
