Memphis Blanked 10-0 at North Alabama
Apr 05, 2022 | Baseball
FLORENCE, Ala. – A road trip to face the North Alabama Lions (8-19, 2-7) got off to a poor start for the Memphis Tigers (12-13, 0-3) and never got any better, as Memphis fell behind 5-0 after one inning in an eventual 10-0, seven inning loss. The defeat was the eighth straight for the Tigers and the second shutout loss over that stretch.

Memphis: 0, North Alabama: 10
WP: Austin Nichols (1-5)
LP: David Warren (0-2)
SV: N/A
How it happened:
- Warren didn't record an out in the start, as all four batters that he faced reached base and eventually scored
- LHP JT Durham relieved Warren after a bases loaded walk and walked each of the first two batters that he faced, which each forced in a run, while RF Zak Majer followed with a two-run single that gave the Lions a 5-0 lead in the first inning
- North Alabama added two more in the third off of Durham in the third, as consecutive singles from 3B Jonathan Lane and 2B Drew Hudson started the frame and both came around to score, as North Alabama led 7-0 after three innings
- Nichols, who entered the night 0-5 with an 11.47 ERA, pitched to contact over seven-dominant innings, his best collegiate start; Nichols allowed just three hits, struck out two, and faced just six over the minimum in the complete game shutout
- The Lions added an insurance run in the fifth and two more in the seventh, as an RBI single by CF Austin Thrasher, his third hit of the game, went in as a walk-off single, as it made it 10-0 Lions and induced the run-rule
Notables:
- With an 0-3 night, 1B Chris Swanberg saw his 10-game hit streak and 14 game on-base streak come to an end
- DH Jacob Compton was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning, which extended his on-base streak to 20 games
Up Next:
- Memphis' Wednesday night matchup at Middle Tennessee State was canceled due to expected inclement weather in Murfreesboro
- The Tigers will return home for a weekend set against UCF that will begin Friday at 6 p.m. at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field
