Memphis Set for Busy Week with Five Home Games

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After spending most of the last two weeks playing on the road, the Memphis Tigers (18-18, 4-8) are set to begin a 10-game homestand, with a Tuesday matchup with Mississippi Valley State (10-17-1, 4-12), a Wednesday tilt vs. Arkansas – Pine Bluff (8-26-1, 5-12), and a weekend series vs. Wichita State (13-27, 2-10).

The Tigers lead the all-time series with Mississippi Valley State (MVSU) 8-1, with six straight wins, all at home. Memphis picked up an 8-1 win in 2019, a 14-0 shutout win in 2018, and a 13-4 victory in 2017. The Devils were swept by Nicholls, who the Tigers picked up a win over earlier this season, and went 2-0-1 vs. Arkansas – Pine Bluff, who Memphis hosts Wednesday. MVSU comes to Memphis off of a series loss at Bethune-Cookman and hasn't won consecutive games since a doubleheader sweep of Tougaloo March 29. The Devils rank second to last in the SWAC in doubles (33), FLD% (.937), hits (.245), and K/BB (0.78).

Memphis is a perfect 8-0 vs. Arkansas – Pine Bluff (UAPB) dating back to 1998, with most recently, an 11-10 win in 2019. UAPB is 0-3 vs. SEC competition this season, with a 17-1 loss to Mississippi State and a pair of shutout losses at Arkansas. The Lions went 0-2-1 in a three-game series vs. Mississippi Valley State, who the Tigers host Tuesday. UAPB enters the week on a five-game losing streak, which included giving up 40 runs last weekend in a three-game sweep at the hands of Prairie View A&M. The Lions are second to last in the SWAC in ERA (9.15) and 10^th out of 12 teams in K/BB (1.11) and WHIP (2.10). Andrew Duran and Trenton Ferguson each have two complete games, which is tied for second in the country, while three different UAPB pitchers rank among the top five in the nation in hit batters.
