LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Memphis Tiger softball team opened the weekend on a high note, collecting a 3-2 win over UT Arlington to kick off The Evangeline Bank and Trust II Invitational hosted by McNeese State.

Following today's game, Memphis moves to 4-7 overall.

How it happened:

Alexis Dale would score the first run for the Tigers in the top of the 4^th inning after an error from UTA's defense allowed her to cross home plate and put Gracie Morton on second and Camryn Wineinger on first.
The very next batter, Taylor Smrt, would hit a single to right field to bring Morton home to extend Memphis' lead out to 2-0.
Aliana Zavala would record an RBI after a groundout to second base sent Wineinger home and make it a 3-0 ballgame.
UTA attempted a comeback in the bottom of the 7^th after an RBI hit into right field and a wild pitch allowed them to score two runs. But after a run down at third base with the Tiger defense and a fly out to center field, Memphis walked away with the 3-2 win.

Notables:

Gracie Morton led the team today going 3-4 from the plate with a run scored while five other players reached base for the Tigers.
Hallie Siems got the start today going 6.1 innings with six strikeouts while Mikayla Hoschak recorded the save after 0.2 innings of work.

UP NEXT

Memphis will continue play tomorrow when they face off with Manhattan College and host school, McNeese State. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
