VanBrakle Prothro Announces First Signing Class

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Head Tiger softball coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro has announced the signing of Taniyah Brown and Khamiyah Brown as part of her first signing class here at Memphis.
Taniyah, a 5-7 pitcher from Montgomery, Ala., comes to Memphis after collecting 475 strikeouts during her prep career and led the country with 33 wins. While she spent most of her time in the pitcher's circle, Taniyah picked up 60 hits and knocked over 16 homeruns for Brewbaker Technology Magnet Highschool.
"I am so excited to be a part of the Memphis family," said Taniyah. "I would like to say thank you to the coaches and staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity."
Taniyah was named as a First Team Al-State selection and named as the All-Metro Player of the Year during the 2022 season.
"Taniyah is a hitting pitcher which is so rare in today's softball athletes," said VanBrakle Prothro. "I am really excited for her to join our Memphis Softball Family and for her to make her mark on this program and in the conference. She is highly motivated, smart, athletic, and an overall great person."
Khamiyah, a 5-7 catcher from Montgomery, Ala., comes to Memphis after being named as an All-State Honorable Mention, All-Metro First Team selection and to the Central Alabama Scoreboard Super 22. Khamiyah has posted a .512 batting average for Brewbaker Technology Magnet Highschool while collecting 66 hits, 26 of them being extra-base hits, 50 runs batted in, eight homeruns and a 1.466 OPS.
"I am so grateful to have this amazing opportunity to join the Memphis family," said Khamiyah. "I want to say thank you The University of Memphis and Coach VanBrakle Prothro for allowing me to join the program."
"I am so excited for Khamiyah to join the Memphis Softball family. She is an athletic catcher with a great bat who is highly motivated, smart,and a great person. I am excited to see what she does for us at Memphis and can't wait for her to be here," said VanBrakle Prothro.
Both Taniyah and Khamiyah played with AL Impact-Segrest.
