WICHITA, Kan.– Memphis (12-6, 2-3) fell to Wichita State (8-7, 2-2) 3-2 on Friday night. Memphis won the first set before dropping the second, third and fifth.

Memphis jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Shockers in the first set but Wichita State would battle back to tie the set at 12-all. The Tigers went on a 6-2 run to close out and win set one 25-21.

A 4-0 run from the shockers gave them a 8-5 advantage in the second. The Tigers would go on a 7-0 ru to tie the set at 23 all but lose the set 28-26.

Memphis held a slight 8-7 advantage during the start of the third and fended off the Shockers after a 6-0 run. Memphis finished the set on a 4-1 run to take it 27-25.

A string of run in the fourth set earned Wichita the 25-19 victory. Wichita carried the momentum into into the fifth set, defeating Memphis 15-6 and winning the math 3-2.

Notables

Miaya Smith and Kate Bass both had a match-high five blocks for the Tigers.
Gigi Crescenzo lead the Tigers with 15 kills, one service ace and one block.
