Tigers Look for First AAC Win of Season Over Wichita State, Tulane

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– After opening the American Athletic Conference play at home, the Tigers will hit the road in search of their first AAC win of the season when they take on the Shockers of Wichita State and Green Wave of Tulane University on Sunday afternoon and Wednesday night, respectively.
Memphis (9-4, 0-2 AAC) is coming off a 63-44 loss to SMU that saw Jamirah Shutes lead the team with nine points and nine rebounds while Emani Jefferson and Alana Davis added in seven points each.
For the season, Shutes leads the offense with 11.8 points per contest while Tyler Frierson is pulling down a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game. As a team, the Tigers are holding their opponents to just 59.0 points/game and have a +9.0 rebound advantage over their rivals.
Wichita State (10-5, 1-1 AAC) is coming off their first conference win of the season when they took down the Bearcats of Cincinnati on Thursday night. Jane Asinde led the team with 17 points on 6-8 shooting from the field while Seraphine Bastin, DJ McCarty and Asia Strong all added in double-figure scoring. Trajata Colbert came off the bench for the Shockers to grab 11 rebounds.
For the season, Mariah McCully leads the team with 12.9 points per game while Asia Strong is adding in just over 10 points per contest. Jane Asinde has been Wichita State's go-to on the boards; Asinde has pulled down 127 rebounds so far with Bastin not far behind her with 105 total rebounds.
As a team, the Shockers rank as one of the best rebounding teams in the Division I. Wichita States 16.7 offensive rebounds per game rank 7th in the country while their +10.1 rebound margin ranks 14th in Division I.
Tulane (8-5, 0-2 AAC) is still in search of their first AAC win of the season after falling to UCF and No. 24 South Florida. In their most recent game against South Florida, Arsula Calrks and Dynah Jones led the way, offensively, for the Green Wave with 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Krystal Freeman pulled down 10 rebounds.
Despite being sent to the free throw line 34 times and forcing the Bulls into 15 turnovers, Tulane was unable to catch South Florida and faced the 75-62 loss.
For the season, four players are averaging double figures for the Green Wave; Moon Ursin is leading the charge with 13.8 points per game while Dynah Jones, Krystal Freeman and Arsula Clark are all averaging over 10 point per contest. Along with leading the team in scoring, Ursin is also grabbing a team-best 9.6 rebounds per game.
Tulane will face-off against SMU and Houston before welcoming the Tigers to town on Wednesday.
