Colorado Rockies draft Hunter Goodman

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Colorado Rockies drafted Memphis catcher Hunter Goodman Monday in the fourth round, pick 109, in the 2021 MLB Draft. Across three seasons with the Tigers, Goodman hit .323 with 29 doubles, 41 home runs, and 149 RBIs.
Goodman's selection marks the second time in the past four MLB Drafts that the Tigers have a selection in the first four rounds. In 2018, the Kansas City Royals selected Jonathan Bowlan with the 58th overall selection. Aside from 2020's shortened MLB Draft (five rounds), the Tigers have had at least one player selected in each of the past 12 drafts. Memphis has had six players drafted in the top 10 rounds over that stretch.
A Preseason All-American by both Baseball America and the NCBWA and the AAC Preseason Player of the Year, Goodman lived up to the lofty expectations. The Arlington native matched the program's single-season home run record with 21 home runs, good for a tie for fourth in the nation. Goodman's 21 home runs propelled him to the program record for home runs in a career, as his 42 home runs across 128 games surpassed Rodney Bright's 37 home runs from 1986-88. In 2021, Goodman led the American in Slugging Percentage (.678), notched the 13th best batting average in the conference (.307), and finished T-3 in the league with 51 RBIs.
The accolades continued for Goodman once the 2021 season came to an end. Goodman was named First Team All-Region by ABCA/Rawlings, Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, and Third Team All-American by ABCA/Rawlings, Baseball America, and the NCBWA.
