Dean hits a big HR but Tigers fall at ECU

Greenville, N.C. – The Tigers fell to East Carolina Sunday morning 4-2. This was the final regular season game for the Unviersity of Memphis before traveling to Tulsa to start the AAC Championship on Thursday.
Hallie Siems got her second start of the series in circle for the Tigers. Siems went three complete innings, giving up two runs on five hits. She also had two strikeouts. Mariah Nichols replaced Siems in the circle for the Tigers. This was Nichols second appearance for the Tigers this weekend. Nichols finished the game for the Tigers, giving up two runs on three hits.
Erin Poepping started her second game of the series for the Pirates in the circle. Poepping went three and a third innings, giving up one run on two hits. She recorded five strikeouts. Whitney Sanford came in relief in the fourth inning. This was only her sixth appearance in the circle for ECU this season. Sanford finished out the inning, giving up one run on one hit. Kana Woodall finished out the game for East Carolina.
Once again East Carolina got on the first. In the bottom of the first, with runners on the corners, Chandley Garner hit a single into left center scoring Ashleigh Inae. The Pirates scored their second run of the inning on a Taylor Woodring RBI hit by pitch.
The Tigers were able to get a run back in the top of the third inning. With one out and Mia Greenzweig on second, LaNya Bates hit a single through the right side to score Greenzweig and make it a 2-1 ball game.
Next inning, Alyssa Dean tied the game up with a solo home run to left field. This was Dean's sixth home run of the year.
The Pirates took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning however, scoring two runs on a single to short by Rachel McCollum and a throwing error by Greenzweig. East Carolina took a 4-2 lead.
The Tigers drop to 9-40(2-22) and the Pirates improve to 16-32(7-17)

The Tigers will play next Thursday in Tulsa, Oklahoma to start the AAC Championship. The opponent and start time still to be determined.
