Tigers bats go cold in DH at ECU

Greenville, N.C. – The Tigers dropped both games of a doubleheader at East Carolina 3-0 and 4-0. LaNya Bates got a hit in both games today. She has now had at least one hit in her last five of six games.
GAME 1
Hallie Siems got the start for the Tigers in the circle. This was her 12th start and 22nd appearance in the circle for the Tigers. Siems threw her second complete game of the season for the University of Memphis. She gave up three runs on four hits and had four strikeouts.
Erin Poepping started the game in the circle for the Pirates. This was Poepping's eighth start of the season for ECU. Poepping threw her first complete game of the year for ECU. She gave up zero runs on only two hits. She finished the game with
After a scoreless first inning, the Pirates struck first. With the bases loaded and two outs, Faith Jarvis reached first on a throwing error by Alyssa Dean scoring Bailey Ledvina and giving ECU the 1-0 lead. The Pirates would get two more runs in the bottom of the third, making it a 3-0 ball game.
Gracie Morton and Bates had the only two hits of the game.
GAME 2
Chyanne Ellett got the start in game two for the Tigers in the circle. This was Ellett's tenth start of the season. Ellett threw her first complete game of the season for Tigers, giving up four runs on eight hits. She recorded four strikeouts in the game as well.
Kama Woodall made her second start of the series in the circle for the Pirates. Woodall threw her 15th complete game for ECU. She gave up zero runs on six hits and had six strikeouts.
East Carolina got the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Rachel McCollum hit a RBI single to short, scoring Ashleigh Inae. Mia Greenzweig made a great diving play and initially threw Inae out at home plate. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the call was reversed to safe on catcher interference of blocking the plate.
The Pirates got another run across the plate in the second inning. Inae singled to left scoring Courtney Layton from second and giving ECU the 2-0 lead.
East Carolina doubled their score with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sydney Yoger hit a two run home run over the left field foul pole, extending the Pirates lead to 4-0. Coach Helen Pena was thrown out of the game for arguing with the home plate umpire about the fair call on the home run. This is the first ejection of a Memphis coach this season.
Baylee Smith led the Tigers in hitting with two hits of her own, including a double to left field in the fourth inning. Brady Rowland, Sara Ann Davidson and Greenzweig also recorded a hit in the game.
The Tigers drop to 9-39(2-21) and the Pirates improve to 15-32(6-17).
