Vazquez’s 69 leads Memphis men’s golf in second after AAC Championship first round

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Esteban Vazquez's 3-under 69 and senior Guillaume Chevalier's 71 led Memphis men's golf to a 3-under 285 as the Tigers are in second after the AAC Championship first round at Southern Hills Golf Club on Friday.
Memphis is 15 shots behind South Florida at the par-72, 7,221-yard layout.
Vazquez, who is tied for sixth individually, recorded three birdies in a four-hole stretch on the par-5 12th and par-4 14th and 15th. The Oviedo, Spain, native, bogeyed the par-4 second but answered with a birdie at the par-3 third.
Chevalier, from Aix-en-Provence, France, is tied for 11th after mixing three birdies at the par-5 No. 5 and par-4 Nos. 10 and 14 with a pair of bogeys at Nos. 7 and 8.
Senior Borja Martin is tied for 14th at even par 72 with three birdies at Nos. 8, 12 and 14 while bogeying Nos. 10, 17 and 18. Junior Oscar Ambrosius is tied for 19th with a 73 while senior Isaiah Jackson is tied for 30th with a 75.
South Florida's 18-under 270 leads Memphis (285) followed by No. 20 SMU (287), East Carolina (287), UCF (288), Cincinnati (289), Temple (296) and Wichita State (297).
A trio leads at 6-under 66 including Wichita State's Marcus Wochner and a pair from South Florida in Kyle Flexsenhar and Luke Gifford.
The Tigers will tee off in Saturday's second round in the lead group with South Florida off No. 1 at 9:08 a.m.
