Mar 25, 2021 | Women's Soccer
The No. 17 Memphis women's soccer team will play its final non-conference match of the season Saturday at No. 6 Vanderbilt. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+ from Nashville.
Memphis (6-1 overall, 5-0 AAC) leads the American Athletic Conference standings with 15 points from its five American Athletic Conference games this season. The Tigers climbed two spots to No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 after road victories over Cincinnati and Temple last week.
Junior defender Kimberley Smit was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week and selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Team of the Week after the two wins. Freshman defender Haylee Spray received the AAC Rookie of the Week.
Vanderbilt (9-4, 8-4 SEC) played a 12-game schedule in the fall. The Commodores won four games in the SEC Tournament last November to claim the conference championship. Vanderbilt has been victorious in one regular-season match and two exhibitions this spring. The Tigers did not play any games in the fall.
Memphis will aim to even its record against SEC opponents this season after falling 3-1 at Ole Miss earlier this month. The Tigers are 2-4 in the all-time series against the Commodores with both victories coming in Nashville. The teams last met seven years ago in Memphis, a 2-1 Vanderbilt win.
