Goodman named to Golden Spikes Award Watch List

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Hunter Goodman picked up his eighth overall preseason accolade Thursday morning, as USA Baseball named the sophomore catcher to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List.
The 2021 preseason watch list features 55 of the nation's top amateur players from high school and college baseball. The list is also comprised of representatives from 16 different collegiate athletic conferences. The winner of the 43rd annual Golden Spikes Award will be named in July.
Goodman became the first player in program history named to a preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List. In 2011, Memphis baseball alumnus Chad Zurcher was named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
Earlier this week, Goodman was named to his fifth Preseason All-America team, having been named to Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1 Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game's Preseason All-America lists. Collegiate Baseball also named Goodman to their All-America team following the condensed 2020 season.
A five-time Freshman All-American at the end of the 2019 season, the Arlington, Tenn., native became the first player in Memphis baseball history to be named a Freshman All-American and All-American in a career.
The sophomore capped his 2020 campaign ranked third nationally with eight home runs and 31 RBI and ranked sixth in the country with 52 total bases through 17 games.
For his career, Goodman holds a .333 batting average with 21 home runs, 98 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
