Sophomore named Third Team catcher by Baseball America
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis baseball's Hunter Goodman added his third preseason All-America honor ahead of the 2021 season with Baseball America naming the sophomore as its Third Team catcher.
Baseball America annually polls major league organizations' scouting departments to vote on the team and asks that they make their selections based on performance, talent and professional potential.
In the past, the Baseball America Preseason All-America team has been a predictor both of the first round of the draft and of team success. In 2020, 16 of the 29 first-round picks were named to Baseball America's Preseason All-America teams.
Goodman was also named Second Team Preseason All-America by D1Baseball as a designated hitter last week and garnered a Second Team nod on Collegiate Baseball's list in December. Collegiate Baseball also named Goodman to their All-America team following the condensed 2020 schedule.
With his All-America accolade at the end of the 2020 season, the Arlington, Tenn., native became the first player in program history to be named a Freshman All-American and All-American in a career.
The junior capped his 2020 campaign ranked third nationally with eight home runs and 31 RBI and ranked sixth in the country with 52 total bases through 17 games.
For his career, Goodman holds a .333 batting average with 21 home runs, 98 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
Voted the American Athletic Conference's Preseason Player of the Year, Goodman was the lone AAC representative on any of Baseball America's Preseason All-America teams.
