Memphis Opens Conference Play Wednesday at Tulane
Dec 28, 2021 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After missing two games due to COVID-19 protocols within the program, the Memphis Tigers return to action and begin American Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at Tulane. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Tigers (6-4, 0-0 AAC) made a statement in their last game, knocking off No. 6/8 Alabama on Dec. 14 at FedExForum, 92-78. The win over the Crimson Tide is the highest ranked victory by an AAC team this year.
After that, however, Memphis' Dec. 18 game against No. 18/18 Tennessee and its Dec. 21 contest against Alabama State were called off.
Tulane (3-6, 0-0 AAC) is also resuming action after a COVID-19 pause, with the Green Wave last playing Dec. 7 before three-straight cancelations.
Memphis has won eight of its last 11 conference openers, and in last season's conference opener, also at Tulane, the Tigers added a big piece to their 2020-21 stretch run. After sitting out the start of the season, DeAndre Williams became immediately eligible prior to that Dec. 16 game in New Orleans. In the 21 games after he started suiting up, the Tigers went 16-5, with the five losses by a combined 15 points including two against top-10 Houston each by one possession.
After Wednesday's game, the Tigers stay on the road to play Wichita State Saturday at 11 a.m. The showdown with the Shockers will be televised on CBS.
Memphis then returns to FedExForum to host Tulsa on Jan. 4 and Cincinnati on Jan. 9.
