Tigers Face Off with Alabama, Southern

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a week on the road that saw Memphis collect wins over Liberty, Loyola Marymount and Penn, the Tigers (6-1) will hit the road to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama on Tuesday night before welcome Southern University to Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Tuesday night's game marks the fourth game in eight days for the Tigers as they continue their week on the road.
Through the first seven games of the season, Memphis is holding their opponents to an average of 58 points per game while ranking first in the American Athletic Conference in made free throws, offensive rebounds per game and rebound margin.
Jamirah Shutes currently leads the team with 12.7 points per game while Emani Jefferson and Alana Davis are adding in 9.7 and 8.4 points, respectively. The post duo of Davis and Tyler Frierson have been dominated the boards for Memphis with 86 combined rebounds and accounting for more than 25% of the team's rebounds in-game.
Alabama (5-2) is coming off three wins at home last week; the Crimson Tide earned wins over Mercer, Western Carolina and Bethune-Cookman.
Alabama cruised to the 89-45 win over Bethune-Cookman in their most recent game that saw the Crimson Tide dominate in rebounds, three-point field goals, steals, assists and forced the Lady Wildcats into 24 turnovers.
For the season, Brittany Davis leads the team with 17.1 points per game and just over seven rebounds per contest. Megan Abrams is chipping in 13.3 points while Jada Rice and JaMaya Mingo-Young are combing for just under 20 points for Alabama.
Tuesday's game marks the fourth straight home game for the Crimson Tide and the fourth consecutive road game for Memphis. This will also be a reunion for head coaches Katrina Merriweather and Kristy Curry. Merriweather coached for Curry while at Purdue from 2003-2006.
Southern (0-4) has had a rough start to the season, facing losses to Texas A&M, Marquette, Iowa and Iowa State to open the 2021-22 season. Saturday's contest will mark the fifth consecutive game that the Jaguars have played on the road this year.
Genovea Johnson leads the way for Southern, offensively, with 9.5 points per game while Nakia Kincey, Aleighyah Fontenot and Kayla Watson are all adding in five or more points per contest.
