No. 16 Tigers Host No. 7 Navy and No. 12 Akron this Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 16-ranked University of Memphis Tigers rifle team will host No. 7 Navy and No. 12 Akron in a pair of matches this weekend at the R.F. Fogelman Rifle Range in Memphis, Tenn. Live targets for both matches can be found at GoTigersGo.com.
Memphis will host Navy on Saturday, Oct. 16 starting at 8:45 a.m. CT, before facing Akron on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. CT.
"We are looking forward to a pair of home matches this weekend against Navy and Akron," interim head coach Morgan Phillips said "After last weekend's match, the team has been working hard on applying what they learned during practice this week. I look forward to seeing them apply those things this weekend in a match setting and continue their growth."
This past Sunday, the Tigers fell in the team's season opener at No. 1 West Virginia, 4718-4622. In her first match as a Tiger, Angeline Henry led the team, placing ninth overall with an aggregate total of 1170.
Henry was the top Memphis performer in both disciplines, placing 10th in smallbore with a score of 576 and fifth in air rifle with a total of 594.Kaylene Castillo earned a top-10 finish in air rifle for the Tigers, finishing with a total of 591 to place eighth.
Memphis boasts an experienced, talented squad in 2021-22, with all six members of the team having competed on the NCAA level. Five returners from last season – Castillo, Taylor Christian, David Crenshaw, Jack Kersey and Mark Meyeraan – are joined by the talented transfer Henry, who was the 2019 NCAA individual Air Rifle runner-up and helped TCU win the NCAA team title.
