Stasia Mallin named Commissioner's Postgraduate Leadership Award winner

Becomes first Memphis female student-athlete to earn honor
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's soccer alumna Stasia Mallin continued to add to her remarkable resume, as the All-American was selected as a 2019-20 Commissioner's Postgraduate Leadership Award winner, Commissioner Mike Aresco announced Tuesday morning.
Voted by the American Athletic Conference's faculty athletics representatives, the annual awards are given to one male and one female student-athlete from an AAC-sponsored sport who have been admitted to a degree-granting or professional program for the following year and who have demonstrated leadership through excellence in academic credentials, athletic performance and depth of commitment to service within the institution or the community.
Cincinnati men's swimmer Din Selmanovic joins Mallin as this year's honorees. Mallin and Selmanovic will each receive a $5,000 scholarship, which may be applied to postgraduate study.
Mallin became the first female student-athlete from Memphis to win a Commissioner's Postgraduate Leadership Award and fourth overall.
A semifinalist for the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy, Mallin earned United Soccer Coaches first team All-America honors and first team All-Conference accolades after a record-breaking senior campaign.
The American's all-time assist leader capped her career in Blue and Gray with four goals and 29 assists. She also anchored a defensive line that pitched 12 shutouts in 2019, helping the Tigers to the regular-season conference title.
After being named second team Academic All-America (CoSIDA) in 2018, Mallin earned two first team honors in 2019 as voted by CoSIDA and United Soccer Coaches. The Carmel, Indiana native earned a 3.981 GPA with a degree in biomedical engineering, graduating summa cum laude.
Named a 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year candidate earlier this month, she was a member of the Alpha Eta Mu Beta national biomedical engineering honors society, the Tau Beta Pi engineering honors society and the Alpha Epsilon Delta health professional honors society. She was also Memphis' recipient of the Elma Roane Award in 2020, honoring a female student-athlete with drive, enthusiasm and determination while maintaining a concern for others.
In the community, she served as an undergraduate research assistant in Memphis' biomedical engineering department, volunteered at Target House/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and at FedEx House/Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
Mallin plans to enroll in medical school and pursue a career in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine or sports psychiatry.
