TennisRecruiting.net ranks Tigers' incoming class No. 23 in country
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team has worked hard to put together a nationally competitive recruiting class, and it's being recognized as such. TennisRecruiting.net has named Memphis the 23rd-ranked recruiting class in the country, a program record for the Tigers.
"We are excited to be recognized for our recruiting efforts here at Memphis by Tennisrecruiting.com. We are surrounded on this list by some amazing programs," head coach Hayden Perez said of the ranking. "Special thanks to Associate Head Coach Ryan Haymond for his tireless efforts in this department!"
The poll is a yearly publication by TennisRecruiting.net, constructed by votes from reporters, tournament directors, referees, ranking chairmen and writers across the country and globe.
Memphis' signing class features a pair of international players teaming up with a pair of homegrown talents. The class kicked off in November with the signing of Sophie Abrams and Dolavee Tumthong. Abrams, from Germantown, Tenn., signed ont as the No. 3 player in the state of Tennessee and the 33rd-ranked player in the Southeast Region. Tumthong, who joined the Tigers from Bangkok, Thailand, posted a career-high in the ITF doubles world ranking at 731 in the world last November.
Miriam Grosmann, a Memphis native, joined the class in April of 2020 as the No. 4 player from Tennessee. Grosmann also checked in as the 42nd-ranked player in the Southeast Region. Capping the class is Lima, Peru native Camila Soares, who signed on with Memphis in mid-May. Soares peaked in the ITF singles rankings at 753, and currently sits 762.
The four signees create the highest-ranked class in program history, building upon the precedent that head coach Hayden Perez and associate head coach Ryan Haymond have set since their tenures started in 2014.
"Each of these kids coming in will represent the University of Memphis in a great way and will shine some light on our program," Perez added. "We are looking forward to working with them this fall."
