Memphis Battles in Defeat at Wake Forest

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team played five three-set matches in a 6-1 loss at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Thursday.
Memphis and Wake Forest split the first two doubles matches. Natalia Koppova/Rebecca Frant suffered a 3-6 defeat before Clemence Thouard/Alicia Mall took their match 6-3 to turn all eyes to court one. Tiger duo Sofiia Mykhailets/Emma Dvorackova played a tightly contested match that came down to a tiebreaker where they fell 5-7 as Wake Forest clinched the doubles point.
The Tigers and the Demon Deacons played marathon singles matches as five of the six courts came down to a deciding third set. Wake Forest took a 2-0 lead after court five finished in its favor, 6-1, 6-2. Alicia Mall and Natalia Koppova both won their first sets but would fall 4-6 in their respective third sets to clinch the match for Wake Forest. The remaining matches were played out. Emma Dvorackova and Rebecca Frant fell in their third sets after both winning their second sets. Finally, sophomore Sofiia Mykhailets claimed the lone point for the Tigers with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5) win on court one.
Memphis drops to 0-5 and will be back in action Feb. 14 at Clemson. First serve is set for 9 a.m. in Clemson, South Carolina.
