Memphis Football intro video named best in the nation
May 27, 2020 | Football
MEMPHIS – The 2019 University of Memphis football intro video was awarded a gold medal as best in the nation at the FBS level by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Marketing (NACMA) on Wednesday.
Visually, the intro video used blue fire - the hottest form of fire - to emphasize that Memphis has one of the most explosive offenses in the country and is one of the hottest teams and brands in the country. This blue fire theme was used in all branding and marketing for the season, including the intro video, which incorporated band, cheer, dance, mascot and key players, inter cut with highlights. The actual video shoot was divided into two side-by-side sets, one for player profiles and the other for action shots. A team of fire breathers and manipulators was added to the spectacle of the production.
Memphis, known as a hotbed for musical talent, turned to the singing and writing talents of Al Kapone, as well as producer Boo Mitchell at Royal Studios to create a remix of Eye of the Tiger as the background music for the football intro video. Throw in the singing talents of Uriah Mitchell and the timeless and hip update to this classic song was complete. The lyrics were written in combination with the artists, production company Running Pony and the University of Memphis. The soundtrack included members of the Mighty Sound of the South, performing in studio.
Running Pony's talented editors created the blue flames to some of the close-up shots. The final product was one that brought Memphis Football, the marching band and the local Memphis music scene together to create something truly unique and truly Memphis.
Initiated in 2003, the NACMA "Best Of" Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 16 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. A record number of entries were submitted this year through the NACMA Community. The Tigers won the best Group 1 award, which includes all schools that play football at the FBS level and includes intro videos across all sports. The winners were formally announced via a national video conference call.
This is the first NACMA gold medal won by Memphis.
