McMiller Qualifies For NCAA Indoor Championships

Junior to compete in women's weight throw Mar. 14 in Albuquerque, N.M.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of Memphis track and field's DeeNia McMiller has earned a spot at the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships, the NCAA announced Wednesday. McMiller competes in the women's weight throw.

The 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships are set for Mar. 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M. The University of New Mexico's Albuquerque Convention Center is the site for this year's meet. McMiller throws on Saturday, Mar. 14 at 5:30 p.m. (CT).

McMiller has had a tremendous junior indoor campaign in both throws events, winning silver in the weight throw and shot put at last weekend's American Athletic Conference Championships in Birmingham, Ala. In placing second in the weight throw, the Kansas City, Mo., native set a program record in the event with a mark of 73-11.75 (22.55m).

- McMiller held the program record in the women's weight throw entering the 2019-20 campaign. Her previous school record was 67-9.75 (20.67m) set at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships. McMiller re-set her program record twice in 2019-20.
- McMiller's trip to the NCAA Championships is the first of her career for indoor or outdoor.
- Entering the NCAA Indoor Championships, McMiller has the nation's fifth-best mark in the event at 73-11.75 (22.55m).
- In her indoor career, McMiller has won four silvers (three in weight throw; one in shot put) at The American Championships.Â
- This is the second-consecutive year that Memphis had an athlete qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. In 2019, Davon DeMoss (60 meters) and Jordan Wesner (high jump), both members of the men's team, competed at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
- McMiller is the first Memphis female athlete to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships since Carolina Carmichael (pole vault) did so in 2016.
- McMiller is the first Memphis female thrower to earn a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships since Susan King (shot put) in 2008.
- McMiller is the first Memphis female thrower to compete in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
