PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Memphis men's golf team is off to a strong start this spring, thanks in part to senior Isaiah Jackson.
Â
Wednesday, Jackson was named the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for his play in The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at Aiken, S.C. Jackson posted a seventh-place finish by shooting 1-under 209 and helping the Tigers to fourth place.
Â
For Jackson, it was his seventh Top 20 finish in seven events this season.
Â
At the Palmetto, Jackson shot rounds of 73-68-68 for his 209 on the par-70 layout. He was one of seven golfers in the 75-player field with multiple rounds in the 60s. His 38 pars ranked second in the field.
Â
Jackson, from Golden, Miss., is ranked 50th in the nation.
Â
"Isaiah is quietly putting together a very solid season," said Tigers coach Blake Smart. "He has put in a lot of work during his time at Memphis and has been incredibly coachable.
Â
"There is still plenty in the tank for this young man and we are looking forward to the rest of the season."
Â
Memphis begins Friday at the Schenkel Invitational, a three-day event in Stateboro, Ga. The 54-hole event will be played at Forest Heights Country Club. Georgia Southern is the defending champ in the 14-team competition.
