MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Off to a strong start to his sophomore season, catcher Hunter Goodman added another early-season accolade after being named to the Buster Posey Award Watch List.
Awarded annually to the top catcher in Division I college baseball, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission released its official 60-member watch list this week.
Offensively, Goodman is hitting .333 for the Tigers with three doubles, seven homers and 30 RBI. His 30 RBI rank second nationally, while his home run total ranks fourth in the country.
The Arlington, Tenn., native garnered conference and national player of the week honors last week after posting 24 RBI and four homers in helping Memphis close the month of February on a strong note. Goodman hit a grand slam in each game against Western Illinois and set an NCAA single-game high with 11 RBI against the Leathernecks on March 1.
Transitioning as the squad's primary catcher, Goodman has 126 putouts and 15 assists. He has assisted the Tigers' pitching staff in racking up 170 strikeouts on the year. Additionally, the team's 11.8 strikeouts per-nine-innings rank 13th nationally.
The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 19, 2020. Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 3, 2020.
A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 23rd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 25, 2020.
