Track And Field Wins Eight Titles At Redhawks Open

McMiller leads the way taking first in women's shot put, weight throw.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – University of Memphis' DeeNia McMiller was a double-winner in leading the Tigers track and field squad's effort at the Southeast Missouri's Redhawks Open Friday. The meet was a one-day event held at the SEMO Recreation Center.

It was the second time this season McMiller was a double-winner at a meet and the fifth time in her career. She took the top spot on the podium in both the women's shot put and weight throw Friday.

McMiller claimed two of Memphis' eight titles at the meet. Other first-place finishers were: Cori Davis in the women's 55 meters; Cyera Gordon in the women's long jump; Iason Machairas in the men's shot put; Josh Owten in the men's 55-meter hurdles; Ladasia Walton in the women's high jump; and Jordan Wesner in the men's high jump.

- Memphis posted 19 top-three performances Friday.
- Oliver Tomann, a freshman, crushed his personal-best in the men's weight throw with a 60-11.25 (18.57m) effort. Friday's throw surpassed his previous-best by six feet, four inches (76 inches).
- On the women's side, junior Vigdis Jonsdottir set a personal-best in the weight throw. Her 61-3 (18.67m) effort surpassed her previous indoor best by more than two feet.
- Parker Evans set a personal-best in the men's weight throw for a third-straight meet. Evans'Â 61-0 (18.59m) mark was more than two feet past his previous indoor best.
- Other personal-bests set Friday were: Calvin Austin III, Austin Jackson, Kayden Miller and Charles Nichols all in the men's 55 meters; Cori Davis and Stormy Connor in the women's 55 meters; Josh Owten in the men's 55-meter hurdles; India Wilson in the women's 55-meter hurdles; and Lea Diedicke and Marietta Spannowsky in both the women's high jump and shot put.
- Anastasia Bampali competed in her first collegiate long jump Friday. Last week, she competed in her first collegiate triple jump.
