Tigers set for midweek matchup at Central Arkansas

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For its first midweek matchup of the young season, Memphis baseball will travel to Central Arkansas on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. first pitch from Bear Stadium.

Wednesday's matchup, which will also serve as the first road game of the season for the Tigers, marks the 11th time the Tigers and Bears have met on the diamond. Despite the proximity, the meeting will be the first time the two sides have met since 2015. Memphis holds the advantage in the overall series with an 8-2 record, including a 4-0 mark in games played in Conway.
Memphis opened its 107th season of baseball last weekend in a three-game series against Xavier. The Tigers claimed the season-opener with a 6-1 win on Friday before Xavier took the series with wins on Saturday and Sunday.
Shortstop Ben Brooks enjoyed a strong first weekend at the plate to kick off his junior campaign. The Nashville native hit .455 (5-for-11) and registered a pair of RBIs. In the Saturday game against Xavier, Brooks matched his career high with a trio of hits in a 3-for-4 day, including his second home run of his career.
A total of 13 newcomers made their debuts in the Blue and Gray last weekend. Eight position players comprising of Zach Wilson, Chris Swanberg, Ian Bibiloni, Jaylen Wilbon, Austin Baskin, Max Hildreth, Braden Webb and Taylor Howell all saw action. On the mound, Carson Stinnett and Blake Wimberley saw their first action for Memphis with a pair of starts, while relievers Reed Harding, Daniel Casto and Brayden Green made their Memphis debuts out of the bullpen.
Following Wednesday's game, Memphis will return home for its next three-game series as the Tigers host Dayton. Friday's game is set for 4 p.m., with Saturday slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch and Sunday set for 1 p.m.
