Memphis' victory Wednesday evening at Wichita State marked the second-straight road win at Charles Koch Arena and it provided the Tigers the tiebreak advantage against the Shockers. Wednesday was the only regular season matchup against Wichita State this season.
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu posted her 10th double-double of the season at Wichita State, putting up 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue and Gray. The last time a Memphis player recorded at least 10 double-doubles in the same season was Cheyenne Creighton during her senior campaign in 2017-18.
Fankam Mendjiadeu becomes the 21st player in program history to record 10 double-doubles in their career. She is the 10th player at Memphis to record at least 10 in a single-season.
Freshman guard Madison Griggs continues to climb closer to Memphis' single-season three-point record. The Memphis native has drained 67 triples this season, three shy of matching the single-season record. Griggs is first overall in the AAC with 67 treys and second in three-point field goal percentage (41.1 percent).
Memphis and ECU have met up 33 times in program history. The Tigers own a slight 18-15 advantage against the Pirates. Memphis and ECU have split the season series the last two seasons. Since joining the American Athletic Conference, the Tigers are 6-4 against the Pirates.
A Look At The Competition
ECU enters Saturday's game with a 5-18 overall record and 2-8 mark in conference play. In the last four games, the Pirates are 2-2 with wins against Memphis and Houston.
The Pirates continue to be one of the most disruptive programs in the country, ranking second nationally with 24.65 forced turnovers per game. Alcorn State, who Memphis competed against in the season opener, is the nation's leader in forced turnovers at 27.43 per game.
Lashonda Monk continues to lead the team offensively with 13.9 points per game. She is joined in double figure scoring by Taniyah Thompson (13.2 ppg) and Raven Johnson (11.0 ppg). Johnson pulls in a team-leading 8.3 rebounds per game.
Although ECU has the ability to force a lot of turnovers, it allows its opponents to shoot over 45 percent from the floor per game. This season, the Pirates are outscored by over 10 points per game and outrebounded by over 11 per contest.
The Pirates are led by head coach Kim McNeill who is in her first season at ECU.
