Memphis Notes
The Tigers kicked off the 2020 season with a 3-2 overall record and an appearance in the 2020 Paradise Classic Championship game before falling to Iowa State by a score of 2-0. Memphis had several rookies make an immediate impact, including Chyanne Ellett in the circle and Brady Rowland and Meagan Chism behind the plate.
Â
Ellett finished the weekend with a 2-1 record with 11.2 innings pitched. She struck out a team-leading nine hitters and earned her first win of the young season in Memphis' 6-4 victory against Iowa State in the season opener.
Â
Chism and Rowland both posted batting averages over .400 for the weekend and combined for 10 hits and three doubles. The two freshmen split time behind the plate and Rowland worked her way in the lineup as a designated player when not catching for the Tigers.
Â
Senior Sara Ann Davidson made the biggest splash in Hawai'i, recording a team-leading .455 batting average with three extra base hits, including Memphis' first home run of the 2020 season. Davidson drew three walks and scored five runs en route to earning her first American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll nod.
Â
Collectively, Memphis hit .310 while holding opponents to a .252 batting average. Memphis posted eight doubles, three triples and two home runs and finished with a .398 on-base percentage. The Tigers also stole 10 bases last weekend, led by Baylee Smith's perfect 5-for-5 effort.
