Memphis to face Mississippi Valley State for first time Tuesday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After winning its first two home games of the season, Memphis is back inside FedExForum on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to conclude a three-game homestand against Mississippi Valley State.
The Tigers (3-2) are coming off an 85-68 victory over Central Arkansas on Friday and an 83-54 win over Arkansas State on Wednesday.
Tuesday will be the first-ever matchup between Memphis and Mississippi Valley State.

Scouting Mississippi Valley State
Mississippi Valley State is 0-5 this season and has allowed at least 88 points in every game. The Delta Devils have a common opponent with the Tigers after facing Western Kentucky on Sunday in a 96-69 loss. Memphis fell 75-69 to WKU in its second game of the season at the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic in South Dakota.
Picked to finish ninth in the Southwest Athletic Conference, Mississippi Valley State went 3-27 last season. The Delta Devils have not won a non-conference game since November 2018.
Mississippi Valley State sophomore guard Caleb Hunter was the SWAC Freshman of the Year last season after averaging 15.7 points per game. He is the son of Delta Devils head coach Lindsey Hunter.
Looking ahead
Following Tuesday night's game, the Tigers will travel to Atlanta for a neutral-site matchup with Auburn at 4 p.m. (CT) on Saturday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The game will be televised on SEC Network. The two teams have only met once, on Jan. 2, 1953, a 78-64 Auburn win in another neutral-site game in Houston.
