Memphis women’s basketball welcomes No. 23/24 USF on Wednesday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis women's basketball team opens American Conference play vs. No. 23/24 South Florida on Wednesday, December 16th at 2 p.m. CT at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The matchup between the Tigers and the Bulls will be available to stream on ESPN+. The Tigers lead the overall series with South Florida, 15-13, but fell to the Bulls, 68-47, last year in Memphis on February 22nd.

Memphis heads into the Wednesday matchup coming off its second consecutive win of the season, a 69-48 victory over McNeese on Saturday. Memphis raced out to a 32-9 lead, including an 8-0 run to end the first half, and held on to it for the duration of the game.
Senior Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu led the way for the Tigers with 16 points and 15 rebounds, her third consecutive double-double. Sophomore Lanetta Williams scored a career-high 13 points off the bench and totaled five blocks, the most on the team.
A Look at USF
The Bulls are coming off an 85-43 win against Stetson to close out its nonconference schedule. Against the Hatters, USF had four players score in the double-digits, including a double-double by Bethy Mununga with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Mununga's double-double marked the 11th of her career and the second of the season.
Last season, USF notched its ninth consecutive 19-win season and was poised for its ninth straight postseason appearance in 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the end of the college basketball season. The Bulls celebrated two all-conference honorees in Elena Tsineke and Elisa Pinzan. Tsineke was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, in addition to The American All-Freshman Team and Third Team All-Conference, while Pinzan was named a Third Team All-Conference selection.
