Memphis Center Moussa Cisse Selected to 2021 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award Watch List
Nov 06, 2020 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS — Memphis freshman center Moussa Cisse is one of 20 players nationally selected to the 2021 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award watch list, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Friday.
The annual honor, in its seventh year, is given to the top center in men's college basketball. A national committee of college basketball personnel determined the initial watch list.
Cisse is the Preseason American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year. One of the top recruits in the country, Cisse led Lausanne Collegiate School to the 2019-20 Tennessee Division II-A state title. In his final high school season, he averaged 18.4 points, 15.3 rebounds and 9.2 blocks.
Memphis sophomore D.J. Jeffries is on the watch list for the 2021 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award, another honor presented as part of the Naismith Men's Starting Five Awards.
Fans are encouraged to participate in voting during each of the three rounds for both awards. In late January, the watch lists will be narrowed to 10 before going to five finalists in late February. Both awards will be presented Friday, April 9.
