Memphis women’s basketball hosting Southern Illinois to open 2020-21 season

Tip-off at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse is set for 2 p.m.
MEMPHIS - After an offseason of uncertainty, the Memphis women's basketball team is set for its opener in the newly renovated Elma Roane Fieldhouse against Southern Illinois on Sunday, Nov. 29. Tipoff against the Salukis is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. Live video streaming of the game is available through ESPN+, with Greg Gaston Sr. and Niki Bray and fans can listen in on the Memphis Tiger Network with Tyler Springs.
Due to construction delays beyond the universities control we are unable to accommodate fans other than student-athlete families. Concessions will not be available and onsite restrooms will be closed, but facilities at the Michael D. Rose Theatre will be accessible.

The Tigers have a strong sophomore class returning to the team for the 2020-21 season coupled with notable upperclassmen leading both on and off the court. Sophomore guards Madison Griggs and Aerial Wilson return in the backcourt after starting a combined 60 games last season. Griggs was an AAC All-Freshman Team selection after setting a Memphis record with 96 made 3-pointers last season.
Senior forward Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, who was selected to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Second Team last month, started all 31 games for the Tigers last season, averaging 12.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game after transferring from Walters State Community College.
In addition to Fankam Mendjiadeu, Memphis returns Keke Hunter, Alana Davis and Julan McDonald as experienced seniors.
Scouting the Salukis
Southern Illinois returns nine letterwinners from last year's squad. The Salukis bring back Makenzie Silvey, who led the team with 14.8 points per game last year, along with Abby Brockmeyer and her 10 points per game.
SIU is under the direction of eighth-year head coach Cindy Stein.
