Nov 25, 2025 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball secured their second consecutive win on Tuesday night, a wire-to-wire 70-64 result over Louisiana.
The Tigers (4-3) were propelled by junior forward Paris Gaines, who posted career highs in points (17), rebounds (12) and offensive rebounds (eight). Chaé Harris added 21 in her fourth 20-point outing of the year.
Behind five long balls from Harris, Memphis made a season-high eight threes. They held the Ragin' Cajuns to 39.4% shooting, the sixth time in seven games they have prevented opponents from reaching the 40% threshold.
The first quarter was a battle of runs, with the Tigers going up 10-0 in the first three minutes. UL responded with an 8-0 run of their own, but the hosts would post 10 unanswered again thanks to a 7-of-9 start from the field and 4-of-6 from deep.
Louisiana would make several valiant comeback efforts, cutting the deficit to 32-27 mid-way through the second quarter before six consecutive Memphis stops built their lead back out to 41-29 at halftime.
Gaines, who had a relatively modest start to the game, kicked into gear in the second half, halting an early 7-0 Louisiana run with a quick four points to get the lead back to double digits. She finished the third quarter with six points and seven rebounds as the Tigers remained in control.
The visitors used zone defense and aggressive stunts to force nine Memphis turnovers in the final quarter, clawing to a three-point game before Tamya Smith got to the free-throw line to extend the lead, and Harris sealed the game with her final three-pointer with 37 seconds remaining.
The Tigers hot shooting cooled to just 40% by the final whistle, but they won the rebounding battle for just the second time this season thanks to Gaines' eight on the offensive glass. Bianca Silva led Louisiana with a season-high 19 points; top-scorer Amijah Price was held to six points on 2-of-16 shooting.
Memphis will fly south for the Cayman Islands Classic, which will begin on Friday when they battle Florida, followed by a matchup with St. John's on Saturday. Both games will tip at 6:30 p.m. CT and air on FloCollege.com.
