With four games in 10 days to open the conference slate, Memphis is playing its first game in a week against SMU. The Tigers are coming off of a 68-56 setback to No. 4 UConn on Jan. 14, a contest where Memphis held the lead for much of the contest.
Since the inception of the American Athletic Conference, only four other teams have come closer to defeating UConn than Memphis did last Tuesday evening. Only two teams (Tulane and UCF) have fallen to the Huskies by single digits.
Junior forward Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu posted her seventh double-double of the season against the Huskies, scoring a team-high 21 points while pulling in 10 rebounds. She finished her night going 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. It was also Fankam Mendjiadeu's second career 20-point performance.
Freshman guard Madison Griggs also had a memorable night against the Huskies as she knocked down her team-leading 48th three-pointer in the second half. That three-pointer broke LaTonya Johnson's 25-year-old record for most three-pointers in a season by a freshman. Griggs leads the league among players with at least 2.5 three-pointers made per game by shooting at a 42.9 percent clip.

A Look At SMU
SMU comes into Tuesday's game with a 7-9 overall record and 1-3 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Mustangs' lone conference victory was against ECU on Jan. 8, 2020.
Kayla White and Johnasia Cash lead the team in scoring, averaging 10.5 points per game each. Cash is also the team's leading rebounder, pulling in 9.6 boards per game.
Rebounding is SMU's strong suit as the Mustangs rank 13th nationally and third in The American with 43.7 rebounds per game. In addition to Cash, BriShonne Tollie and Reagan Bradley are averaging at least five rebounds per game.
Travis Mays is the head coach of the Mustangs and is currently in his fourth season at the helm.
