Moberg recognized as Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year
Memphis, Tenn. – Three Memphis women's soccer student-athletes were named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference team, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. Overall, the Tigers were selected to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll and tied for the most first-place votes.
Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Moberg was voted the league's Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year. Along with Moberg, senior Serena Dolan and junior Clarissa Larisey were selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team. The trio of Tigers were the most of any school represented on the preseason team.
"I'm very proud of these kids. Preseason recognition is always a bit tricky. People see the potential in you based on the past and you hope they take confidence and live up to the hype in which their peers have voted them," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "Based on the past, all three are well deserved. It's great to have three Memphis representatives on the list."
A Second Team All-AAC selection last year, Moberg returns all 1,901 minutes between the posts for the Tigers from 2018. In her second year in Blue and Gray, the Port Saint Lucie, Fla., native recorded 13 shutouts, setting a school record for single-season clean sheets by a sophomore. Her 17 total wins and 0.76 goals-against average last season rank second in single-season program history.
Earning First Team All-Conference honors last season, Dolan returns a pair of goals and three assists to the Tiger midfield. The Kentville, Nova Scotia native started every match last season and was voted a Google Cloud Academic All-American. Earlier this month, Dolan was also listed to the MAC Hermann Award Preseason Watch List.
A unanimous selection to the preseason team, Larisey served as Memphis' leading point scorer last year (12 goals, four assists). The Ottawa, Ontario product was tabbed to the league's All Rookie team her freshman campaign and earned First Team All-AAC at the end of last season. Another MAC Hermann Award Preseason Watch List honoree, Larisey was also selected the 2018 AAC Championship Most Outstanding Offensive Player during the Tigers' run to their first conference title as a member of The American.
Memphis will cap its preseason slate with a home exhibition against Vanderbilt on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Tigers then open the regular season on Aug. 22 against Little Rock at Billy J. Murphy Track & Soccer Complex.
