Senior center named to watch list.
MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Senior center Dustin Woodard was named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List, Friday. A first team all-conference honoree in 2018 while playing guard, Woodard has played in 40 career games, with 38 starts.
The Chandler, Arizona native has played both right and left guard for Memphis in his three seasons, and will be playing his third offensive line position this year, moving to center following the graduation of four-year starter Drew Kyser.
As a freshman, Woodard stepped into the starting lineup in his third career game and has been a stalwart on the line since. He has blocked for three of the top four offenses in program history (2018: 1st; 2017: 2nd, 2016: 4th). Those three offenses have piled up more than 20,000 yards of offense and produced two NCAA Consensus All-Americans (Darrell Henderson, Anthony Miller).
A two-time AAC All-Academic honoree, Woodard was a 247Sports.com True Freshman All-American in 2016 and has helped Memphis to back-to-back AAC West Division titles and championship games in the past two years.
He is one of two starters returning on the 2019 Memphis offensive line, as redshirt sophomore Dylan Parham is also returning.
Woodard is the fourth Tiger to earn a preseason watch list spot. Patrick Taylor (Maxwell Award, Doak Walker Award, Allstate Good Works Nominee), Bryce Huff (Bednarik Award) and Damonte Coxie (Biletnikoff Award) have also earned preseason spots.
Memphis opens its 2019 season with a home game against Ole Miss at 11 a.m., August 31 in a game that will be nationally-televised on ABC. Tickets for that game are still available as part of a season-ticket package, including mid-field fun zone seats starting at just $100 apiece when you buy four.
