Damonte Coxie Named to Biletnikoff Award Watch List

Lousiana native earned second team all-conference honors last season.
MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Junior wide receiver Damonte Coxie was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list announced Thursday. The Reserve, Louisiana native is coming off a 1,000-yard season, finishing 2018 with 72 catches for 1,174 yards and seven touchdowns.
Coxie comes into 2019 already in the career top 20 at Memphis in total receptions (T-20thwith 93), tied for 15thin receiving yards (1,497) and tied for fourth all-time with five 100-yard receiving games. He ranked second in the American Athletic Conference in receiving yards, helping him earn second team all-conference honors. He is one of just three receivers in Memphis history to post a 1,000-yard receiving season (Isaac Bruce, Anthony Miller).
He carries a consecutive games with a catch streak of 19 games into the 2019 season, having posted games with five or more catches in eight of 14 games last season. The last time he finished a game without a catch was Oct. 27 of 2017 in a game against Tulane. In a road win at East Carolina last season, Coxie posted a career-best 10 catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns. His 75-yard-catch in that game tied for longest play for the Tigers on the season.
Coxie leads a receiving corps that includes a trio of seniors (Antonio Gibson, Kedarian Jones, Pop Williams), redshirt sophomores Coye' Fairman and Calvin Austin III, redshirt freshman Jeremy Tate, Jr., and six newcomers. Traveon Samuel is a combo wide receiver/running back who can be multidimensional in the Tigers' offense and five freshmen also join the roster this fall (Cameron Baker, Jordan Monk, Dylan Ingram, Javon Ivory and Tahj Washington).
Coxie is the third different Tiger to earn a preseason watch list spot. Running back Patrick Taylor has been named to the Maxwell Award and the Doak Walker Award lists, while Bryce Huff was named to the Bednarik Watch List.
The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the season's outstanding college football receiver, regardless of position.
