AUSTIN, Texas – In late night action Thursday, University of Memphis' Tanalya Gordon made it six All-America honors for the Tigers with her performance in the women's long jump at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The University of Texas is the school host for this year's NCAA Championships, and Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium is the host site.
Â
Gordon, a freshman, placed 16thin the event with a mark of 19-11.5 (6.08m). Her finish secured Gordon All-America second team accolades.
Â
She is the sixth Tiger to earn All-America second team accolades at this year's NCAA meet. On Wednesday, five members of the Memphis men's team took home the same recognition. They were Calvin Austin III, Andrew Bishop, Davon DeMoss, Imri Persiado in the men's 4x100-meter relay and Julian Sanchez-Pinto in the men's 3000m steeplechase. DeMoss also collected an All-America second team honor in the men's 100 meters.
Â
It took some time for Gordon and the other athletes to perform Thursday as storms swept through Austin during the day and delayed the start of the meet. The women's long jump was originally scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. (CT) Thursday, but did not start until 10:25 p.m. (CT).
Â
As a result of the inclement weather, the women's javelin, which was originally slated for 8:15 p.m. (CT) Thursday night, was moved to Friday at 2:30 p.m. (CT).
