May 06, 2019 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A day after its fourth doubleheader sweep of the season to clinch a league series against USF, Memphis junior Chris Durham and freshman Hunter Goodman were named to The American's Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Both played a pivotal role in Sunday's first win against the Bulls on Sunday, a 1-0 victory in seven innings.
On the mound, Durham scattered three hits across six shutout innings. The lefty struck out seven Bulls and moved to a 4-2 record. Durham tossed three clean innings and retired 17 of the 22 batters he faced.
At the plate, Goodman provided the first game's lone run with his 10th home run of the season. Goodman continued the offensive surge in the second game of the day, going 3-for-5 and recording four RBI.
In four games last week, Goodman hit .500 (9-for-18) with six RBI. Five of his nine hits went for extra bases, adding three doubles, a triple and a home run. He also stole a base and plated seven runs of his own. Goodman's six RBI week propelled him to the top of the league with 57 runs driven in this season.
Monday's recognition marks the second time this season Durham has claimed Honor Roll accolades (Apr. 8) and third time for Goodman (Mar. 11, Apr. 15). Goodman was also named the league's Player of the Week on Apr. 1.
The Tigers will return to action Tuesday as Memphis hosts Arkansas Pine Bluff at FedExPark. First pitch in the midweek matchup is set for 6 p.m.
