May 30, 2019 | Women's Track and Field
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's track and field program was well-represented on the Google Cloud Academic All-District team announced by CoSIDA Thursday. Kristen Adams, Ashley Pryke and Paige Sandwell each earned a spot on the 10-athlete team. The Tiger track and field program had a combined six honorees among the men's and women's teams, tying their own record from last year.
Adams is a two-time all-district honoree and was an American Athletic Conference all-conference honoree in cross country, just the third honoree in the women's program's history. A three-time AAC all-academic award winner, Adams was a member of the Dean's List and the Tiger 3.0 Club at Memphis. She graduated with a degree in health sciences in 2018 and is completing her master's degree in public health while carrying a 4.0 GPA in grad school.
Pryke will be making her third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships later this month and is now a two-time honoree on the All-District team after third team All-America honors last year. The school record holder in the javelin, Pryke has 19 career javelin titles, including three AAC crowns (2017, 2018, 2019). She is the first Memphis athlete to win three consecutive titles in an outdoor throws event and was a bronze medalist at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships. A three-time AAC all-academic honoree, the Peterborough, Ontario native has been on the Dean's List for eight semesters. She graduated in May with a degree in Exercise, Sport & Movement Science with a 3.90 GPA.
Sandwell just finished her junior season at Memphis and the mechanical engineering major sports a 3.91 GPA. The school record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Sandwell was also a member of the Memphis cross country program, where she was a three-time NCAA South Region competitor. On the track, she posted 12 career top five finishes, while adding nine career top 25 finishes in cross country. A two-time AAC all-academic team honoree, Sandwell has also been a member of the Dean's List and the Tiger 3.0 Club.
All three regional honorees will now appear on the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. Pryke was a third team honoree on the national ballot last year and was one of three Tigers from the track and field program to earn all-America honors in 2018.
