NCAA East Preliminaries set for May 23-25 in Jacksonville, Fla.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the ninth year in a row, the University of Memphis track and field program is going to be well represented during May Madness. The NCAA announced Thursday that 19 Tigers qualified for the 2019 NCAA East Preliminaries to be held in Jacksonville, Fla., May 23-25.
The University of North Florida (UNF) is the school host for the NCAA East Preliminaries. UNF's Hodges Stadium is the host site. The stadium last hosted the NCAA East Preliminaries in 2016.
As the month of May comes around, it has become routine to see the head coach Kevin Robinson's track and field program send a large group of athletes to the NCAA postseason. That's the story again this season.
The 19 athletes heading to this year's NCAA East Preliminaries are tied for the second-most in program history (2013 Tigers also had 19 qualifiers). Last year, the Tigers sent a school-record 23 athletes to the NCAA East Preliminaries. In the last five NCAA East Preliminaries from 2015-19, Memphis has had 89 qualifiers (nearly 18 athletes/year).
This is the ninth-straight outdoor season and 11th time in the last 13 years – all under Robinson – that Memphis has a double-digit number of performers qualify for the NCAA East Preliminaries. In this current nine-year run, the Tigers' average number of postseason representatives each season is 16.

Like last year, more than half of the Tigers are making return trips to the NCAA postseason. Nine athletes earned their first regional spots of their careers, including four freshmen in Tanalya Gordon, Christian Hill, Adar Sheere and Amber Simpson. Seniors Davon DeMoss and Ashley Pryke are making their fourth appearances at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
