Women's Basketball Recruits Enjoy Successful Spring Seasons

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball 2019-20 recruiting class celebrated successful senior seasons not only on the court, but in the classroom as they prepare for the leap to the college ranks next fall.
Local standouts Lanetta and Lanyce Williams led their Arlington High School squad to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Prior to the state tournament, the Lady Tigers defeated Dyer County by a score of 70-39 to win the Region 7AAA Championship.
Arlington's quest for a state tournament berth started with the senior class winning their fourth-straight District 14AAA Championship, where Lanetta and Lanyce were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Lanetta was named a 2019 McDonald's All-American Nominee as well as a 2019 Gatorade Player of the Year Candidate. In addition to those accolades, Lanetta was nominated for the 2019 TSSAA AAA Miss Basketball award.
Lanyce has celebrated successes on the court and in the classroom by winning first place at the NAACP ACT-SO regional contest and first place and honorable mention at the West Tennessee Regional Art Exhibition.
Another local standout, Madison Griggs, led her Houston Lady Mustangs squad to a 31-3 overall record and a runner-up finish at the state tournament. Griggs knocked down five three-pointers in the double-overtime victory over Murfreesboro to advance to the BlueCross Class AAA championship game for the second-straight year.
Griggs helped lead Houston to its third-straight Region 8AAA title with 15 points, including 10 in the first quarter, in a 66-41 win over Whitehaven. Griggs was also named to the 2018-19 All-District 15AAA Second-Team.
Aerial Wilson, a four-star point guard from Ontario, Canada, was one of 12 athletes invited to Canada Basketball U19 Women's National Age-Group Assessment Camp to compete for a position on Team Canada-FIBA U19 Women's Basketball 2019 World Cup. Team Canada is currently ranked fourth worldwide in the FIBA World Ranking Presented by NIKE.
The 2019 World Cup is set to take place July 20-28 in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2018, the Canadian team earned a silver medal at the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship in Mexico City, Mexico.
Wilson was also selected to compete in the first-ever Biosteel All-Canadian basketball game.
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, a sophomore at Walters State Community College, helped lead her squad to a 29-5 overall record and a perfect 16-0 record in conference play last year. Mendjiadeu was the team-leader in scoring with 15.4 points per game in 33 starts. She also was the team-leader with 8.8 rebounds per game. In conference play, those numbers were even higher with marks of 18.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Mendjiadeu was also named Second-Team All-American for her season.
The 2019 class was ranked No. 32 per the Blue Star Report and features four, four-star recruits and one, three-star recruit. It is the highest-ever recruiting class under the direction of head coach Melissa McFerrin.
