Senior earns conference's Female Field Athlete of the Week accolade.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis senior Saida Burns-Moore has been named the American Athletic Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Â
It is the second career conference weekly honor for Burns-Moore, and her first accolade this outdoor season. Burns-Moore is the fourth Tiger this season to earn a league weekly honor. Adar Sheere (Male Field/Mar. 19), Ashley Pryke (Female Field/Mar. 26) and Davon DeMoss (Male Track/Apr. 16) also have received weekly conference distinction earlier this campaign.
Â
In the final home meet of her college career at Saturday's Memphis Invitational, Burns-Moore swept the high and triple jump titles and, in the process, set two personal-bests and a reset of her school record. It was the third time in her career that she won high and triple jump crowns in the same meet.
Â
Burns-Moore began her performance Saturday with a school-record mark in the high jump. The Bronx, N.Y., native posted a 5-11.25 (1.81m) effort, surpassing her previous record of 5-10.75 (1.80m) that she set at the 2018 Memphis Invitational. Burns-Moore then moved to the triple jump and recorded a personal-best leap of 44-1.25 (13.44m). Her previous triple jump best was 42-1.5 (12.84m) at Mississippi State's Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays earlier this season.
Â
In the NCAA East Region rankings, Burns-Moore is seventh in the high jump and 14thin the triple jump, and both are qualifying marks for the NCAA East Preliminaries in late May. She also ranks first in both the high and triple jumps in the American Athletic Conference.
Â
The Tigers are off from competition this weekend and return to action May 10-12 at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Wichita, Kan.
