Karli Perque pitches complete game for the Tigers
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped a close contest Sunday afternoon at USF by a score of 2-1. The Tigers have one series remaining on the 2019 schedule next weekend against UCF. The loss drops Memphis to 22-29 overall and 3-14 in American Athletic Conference play.
Much like in Saturday's game, senior first baseman Ashley Threatt sparked a late-inning rally with a leadoff double in the seventh. Threatt's pinch runner, Hannah Bassham, advanced to third and scored on a single through the left side by Samantha Ibison. The one run in the seventh inning was not enough to overcome the two-run hole Memphis was in at the start of the inning.
That two-run deficit developed with runs in the third and fifth inning by USF. A pair of walks in the third inning put runners on first and second before USF's Macy Cook singled to left center, driving in the first run of the game.
Cook struck once again for USF in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single down the left field line.
Karli Perque pitched a complete game for Memphis. She struck out three and allowed just one earned run. All five of Memphis' hits came from different players.
